All directionals begin with an action verb. Read the following directionals aloud and notice the confident manner in which they inspire an audience to interact and take action.

“Tell me what you came up with.”

“Take a look at the handout in front of you.”

“Read paragraph two.”

“Discuss that with the person next to you.”

Be prepared for slipups

Just as I've suggested you apologize rather than say you're sorry if you misspeak, if you lose your place, do not blurt out something like “I forgot what I was going to say” or “I lost my train of thought.”
